In Memory of Sr. Sylvia

My last posting was about Mother's Day. My mom went to the Philippines to be with my sister who was very sick that time. It was indeed the last Mother's Day celebration for my sister as she was called eternally by the Lord after that.

Prior to my mom's visit, my younger sister and I visited her. We tried our best to make it the most precious and memorable moments with her. We knew that she was in great pain but tried to hide it from us. We never heard her complaint. She was a great sufferer!

There are many things to say but I just can't go on.

On May 22nd, 2011 at around 11.00pm, she went Home to meet the Lord. My mom was beside her and her passing was peacefully. Pope John Paul II was there to guide her journey. I believe she is now in heaven, in a good hand of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Today, is her 6th month anniversary. May her soul rest in peace.

When asked why he cried earlier
his answer was
"because my mommy was not there"
[well actually his mommy was there with my mom,
but she went off as soon as he settled in the class]

It's November and it's Christmas!

Oopss....not yet. It's 40 days more to go. I just can't wait to go to shopping complexes and listening all the Christmas songs. The season to be jolly!!

Father's Day Part 2

Wah....siap ada part 2 lagi tu hehehe

Anyway, nothing much actually. It's just that I'm so happy and greatful for all the blessing I received. To make the story short, saya kena numbur lagi ;)

How I came out with this number? Well, on the Father's Day, while we were taking breakfast at Donggongon, my dad call my sister. I asked my sister to pass the handphone to me, then I talked to my dad "Pa, selamat hari bapa!!" My dad as usual replied, "ada kana numbur kah?" I told him, "mana ada..."

After that, I came with an idea! I wanted to buy my dad's birthday. His birthday is on the 26th November and that's how I came out with that number '2611'. And to my surprised, it came out in STC and won Special Prize :D

Thank you Dad for the gift and blessing! Love you always!

This is a unique get-together for us. Actually, after my uncle got married he moved to Tambunan to be with his wife and furthermore, he worked at Tambunan District Office. And that was the last time we saw him. That was years ago!

So when Bibiana sent her invitation to us, we took this opportunity to attend the wedding and at the same time, to get to know our cousins! We never met them! So here they are:

Donggongon Wet Market in Blaze

I was on my way sending my sister to the airport when I received a text message from my nephew read, "Pasar Dongz terbakar". I immediately called him for details but it seemed that he didn't have a clue coz he just received the message from a friend.

So, from the airport, I went straight to Donggongon to find out myself. And I found these:

After Servay Hypermarket, now this. What a waste. The caused of the blaze is yet to be known. We will find out soon in local newspapers. But what I've been told, this fire happened at 2am on Sunday @ 30.05.2010. The morning of Kaamatan Festival celebration.

Mother's Day

As soon as the Mass ended today, I took my family for breakfast. But all of us, couldn't decide where to go. In the end, I gave them three options:

1. Upperstar
2. Secret Recipe
3. Promenade Hotel

They chose Secret Recipe. But when we arrived there, it was way too early. They have not open for business yet. Then I called Promenade Hotel. The buffet breakfast was closing in half an hour time. There's no way we are turning back to Upperstar either. In the end, we went to Suria KK.

Since Suria KK has nothing much to offer, we moved on to Karamunsing Complex. I bought two sling bags. Hubby bought one too. These bags are for our next vacations. Then I remembered I have not taken my medicine yet. And it's after food medicine. So we went to have this at McDonald's.

But my sons prefer this:

On our way back home, we dropped by at Lido for takeaways. It was a bad decision coz we were stranded there for almost an hour. Heavy rain and strong wind.

Since we need to go back badly, we have no choice but to go through the heavy downpour. We were soaked just like our laundry at home :(

Besides the rain, we had fun actually. A very good quality time with my beloved family.

The last time I saw Rev. Fr. Amandus was when he attended Holy Week Mass at Sacred Heart Church Inobong in April 2010. He came to Inobong last year's Holy Week too. Meaning, Inobong is very close to his heart.

Fr. Amandus was the one who interviewed us when we went to register our marriage, way back in 1990. He interviewed me again during the baptism of my eldest child. Thank you for everything dear Father.

May the Good Lord give you a good place beside Him in heaven. Amen.

Washington, DC Metro Station on a cold January morning in 2007. The man with a violin played six Bach pieces for about 45 minutes. During that time approximately two thousand people went through the station, most of them on their way to work. After 3 minutes a middle aged man noticed there was a musician playing. He slowed his pace and stopped for a few seconds and then hurried to meet his schedule.

4 minutes later:

The violinist received his first dollar. A woman threw the money in the hat and whitout stopping, continued to walk.

6 minutes:

A young man leaned against the wall to listen to him, then looked at his watch and started to walk again.

10 minutes:

A 3 year old boy stopped but his mother tugged him along hurriedly. The kid stopped to look at the violinist again, but the mother pushed hard and the child continued to walk, turning his head all the time. This action was repeated by several other children. Every parent, without exception, forced their children to move on quickly.

45 minutes:

The musician played continuously. Only six people stopped and listened for a short while. About 20 gave money but continued to walk at their normal pace. The man collected a total of $32.

1 hour:

He finished playing and silence took over. No one noticed. No one applauded, nor was there any recognition.

No one knew this, but the violinist was JOSHUA BELL, one of the greatest musicians in the world. He played one of the most intricate pieces ever written, with a violin worth $3.5 million dollars. Two days before JOSHUA BELL sold out a theater in Boston where the seats averaged $100.

This is a true story. JOSHUA BELL playing incognito in the metro station was organized by the Washington Post as part of a social experiment about perception, taste and people's priorities.

The question raised:

* In a common place environment at an inappropriate hour, do we perceive beauty?

* Do we stop to appreciate it?

* Do we recognize talent in an unexpected context?

One possible conclusion reached from this experiment could be this:

If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world, playing some of the finest music ever written, with one of the most beautiful instruments ever made,

Last February 1st, I attended Prizes Presentation at SK St Theresa Inobong where my son is one of the recipients. Prizes were donated and presented by YB Tan Sri Bernard Giluk Dompok. The seven students received cash amounting RM500.00!! [anak saya yang kaya, bukan saya hahaha]

The next day, the event came out in local paper, Borneo Post.

It was also came out in Berita Harian [paper from Peninsular Malaysia] which featured the picture of my son and his proud parents ;)

"What do you want to be when you grow up?" asked Tan Sri Bernard
to which my son replied, "an Engineer"
"Amen" to that....

During the event, we heard YB Tan Sri Bernard giving valuable speeches and one of the topics he mentioned was as below which is to me should be given fully attention especially from the government.

I am aware that I neglected my blog for so long. Blame it to all the interesting games in Facebook. Every time I switch on my computer, I would log in Facebook first. Because I need to harvest my Farmville before its getting rotten. I need to feed my fish at Fishville before they died. I need to cook new dishes at Cafe World. I have to harvest all my plants at Island Paradise before its getting stolen by my neighbours LoL and many-many more. And by the time I finished with all the hard work, I would already be tired and sleepy. I hate the feeling that I HAVE to do all those everyday!!

So I MADE up my mind. This year, one of my resolutions is to 'rest' playing games :D

Remember this post? Ya, I posted it last year when my son was still in Primary 5. And this post also related.

Last Thursday, we attended their 'Majlis Anugerah Cemerlang 2009'. That day itself, their UPSR result came out. I was shocked and couldn't believe it when the teachers approached and congratulated me. They told me my son scored straight A's. I didn't want to believe it. Not until I see the slip. Unfortunately, the result slips were still with another teacher who went and took them at the Education Department. [I only get the slip yesterday morning at his school]

My son, during his days in Primary 6, never scored A's. He was just an average student. I always advised him to do well but I didn't push him. I was scared that it would be burden for him. One thing about my son, he never studied or do revisions at home! When you asked him to do so, his reply was "Enough of studying! I've studied at school". I didn't send him for tuition either but he had extra classes at school. Thanks to all the dedicated teachers at SRK St. Theresa Inobong.

All I wanted from him is to pass the UPSR exam. But he gives more than that! He scored 5A's! Congratulations to you my dear son!! Do not stop learning. Continue your good effort. My prayer will be always for you and also to your sister and brother.

What about the present he asked for?? He is no longer interested with the WII. He had changed his mind. This time he asked for a Piano! Aduii! mahal tu geng! Camana mo tunai permintaan dia ni??

But by the way, during the Anugerah Cemerlang ceremony, I won four lucky draw prizes. Ain't I'm lucky? hehehe

I usually have my breakfast at King Du. I like their kon-lau-men.

But recently I had bad experienced. While eating my kon-lau-men, I noticed something shiny. When I extracted it, it was a wire brush [use to clean kitchen's utensil like pot]. So I called the towkay. He quickly removed my plate. I told him, I don't want a replacement coz I'm in a hurry going to work.

When I pay at the counter, I thought, he won't charged me for the mee or at least he gave me a discount. He still charged me for the mee. Goodness me! Not even an apology from him. He just said, "itu amoi cuci periuk tidak kasih bersih betul-betul bah" *#%&^#@*

After I paid, I didn't say a word. I just left. But I promised to myself, I won't ever go there again!

He was talking with another man. I heard the conversation.

Man : ya bah! bagus kalo yang dia lawan tu kuat

Then I interrupted, "ai ya! Chelsea sudah kalah, apa lagi mau cakap. cepat kiralah tauke!"

Tauke : aik! kau pun tau Chelsea kalah? Kau sukung team apa?

George Phillips, an elderly man, from Meridian, Mississippi, was going up to bed, when his wife told him that he'd left the light on in the garden shed, which she could see from the bedroom window. George opened the back door to go turn off the light, but saw that there were people in the shed stealing things.

He phone the police, who asked "Is someone in your house?"

He said, "No, but some people are breaking into my garden shed and stealing from me"

Then the police dispatcher said, "All patrols are busy. You should lock your doors and an officer will be along when one is available"

George said, "okay". He hung up the phone and counted to 30. Then he phone the police again.

"Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people stealing things from my shed. Well, you don't have to worry about them now because I just shot them". And he hung up.

Within five minutes, six police cars, a SWAT Team, a helicopter, two fire trucks, a paramedic and an ambulance showed up at the Phillips' residence, and caught the burglars red-handed.

One of the policemen said to George, "I thought you said that you'd shot them!"

George said, "I thought you said there was nobody available!"

One post in a week is shameful! Blame it to the Facebook :) FB as people called it, is very addictive. There are a lot of games that I just couldn't resist LoL

Back to my post this week. Our office had our Annual Sport held on the 20th - 21st June 2009. Sabah became the host of this year and it meant - a lot of work to do!! But thank God, we did it successfully!

Island Hopping

My siblings and I and together with our families went for Islands-hopping yesterday. Tiring but the kids were enjoying themselves. Our first stop was at Sapi Island. There were many tourists and we were a little bit scared of the most talked Swine Flu.

At Sapi Island, we went for jungle trekking only. No mandi-manda yet. My brother told us, the best spot for mandi-manda is at Manukan Island.

The second stop was at Mamutik Island. We were thinking of going for the trekking but as we looked at the sky it was like going to rain. Hey peeps! don't judge the weather by looking at the clouds. It didn' rain ok!

Time for the Manukan Island! We reached there at noon and everybody was starving. Found a nice space and then makan time!

The kids couldn't wait to go for their swim. And they did have fun and some says - 'belum puas!!!' Well, hopefully next time we can stay overnight. And by the way, the whole trip was free of charge. Thanks to my brother who is working at Sabah Parks ;)

A Promise Is A Promise

Remember this post? I think it happened again ;) Maybe this is my son's luck. It all happened on one Sunday evening where I had chit-chat with my children. I asked them when is their exams. They told me, it will be on the last week of May. Then followed by a two weeks holiday. At this point, my son reminded me his up-coming birthday.

Son : Ma, my birthday is coming soon. Don't forget your promise.
[My son asked for a hand phone as a birthday gift, coz his old phone is damaged for quite some time]

Me : [Jokingly] If I strike 4D today, you don't have to wait for your birthday to get your new hand phone!

Son : Are you serious?

Me : Of course I am.

Son : Do you promise?

Me : Yes!

Then the 'magic' happened again. Checked the result and I really did strike. My son is smiling all the way and kept reminding me my promise [ouch!]

Third MBR for St. Michael School Penampang

My former school made another Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) again! This time, they collected the largest amount of aluminum cans.

Their first MBR was the Longest Riverbank Cleaning Up, a joint effort with JC Penampang in year 2007. The second one was collecting the Biggest Amount of Recycled Coconut Shells which entered the MBR last year. Click HERE if you missed out the event.

Once again, my husband and I helped our children collecting the aluminum cans. If you ever saw a family dining at restaurants and brought back [tapau] the cans, it could be my family LOL! Even their grandma [my mother] lent her hand by contributing a few kilos of cans.

Congratulations to the teachers and students of SM St. Micahel School Penampang for this effort. Let's join our hand together to preserve the environment!

The Seed

I received this from a friend via e-mail. A bit long but worth reading ^-^

A successful businessman was growing old and knew it was time to choose a successor to take over the business. Instead of choosing one of his Directors or his children, he decided to do something different. He called all the young executives in his company together.

He said, "It is time for me to step down and choose the next CEO. I have decided to choose one of you". The young executives were shocked, but the boss continued. "I am going to give each one of you a SEED today - one very special SEED. I want you to plant the seed, water it, and come back here one year from today with what you have grown from the seed I have given you. I will then judge the plants that you bring, and the one I choose will be the next CEO."

One man, named Jim, was there that day and he, like the others, received a seed. He went home and excitedly, told his wife the story. She helped him get a pot, soil and compost and he planted the seed. Everyday, he would water it and watch to see if it had grown. After about three weeks, some of the other executives began to talk about their seeds and the plants that were beginning to grow.

Jim kept checking his seed, but nothing ever grew. Three weeks, four weeks, five weeks went by, still nothing. By now, others were talking about their plants, but Jim didn't have a plant and he felt like a failure. Six months went by -- still nothing in Jim's pot. He just knew he had killed his seed. Everyone else had trees and tall plants, but he had nothing. Jim didn't say anything to his colleagues, however. He just kept watering and fertilizing the soil - He so wanted the seed to grow.

A year finally went by and all the young executives of the company brought their plants to the CEO for inspection. Jim told his wife that he wasn't going to take an empty pot. But she asked him to be honest about what happened. Jim felt sick to his stomach, it was going to be the most embarrassing moment of his life, but he knew his wife was right. He took his empty pot to the boardroom. When Jim arrived, he was amazed at the variety of plants grown by the other executives. They were beautiful -- in all shapes and sizes. Jim put his empty pot on the floor and many of his colleagues laughed, a few felt sorry for him!

When the CEO arrived, he surveyed the room and greeted his young executives. Jim just tried to hide in the back. "My, what great plants, trees, and flowers you have grown," said the CEO. "Today one of you will be appointed the next CEO!"

All of a sudden, the CEO spotted Jim at the back of the room with his empty pot. He ordered the Financial Director to bring him to the front. Jim was terrified. He thought, "The CEO knows I'm a failure! Maybe he will have me fired!"

When Jim got to the front, the CEO asked him what had happened to his seed - Jim told him the story.

The CEO asked everyone to sit down except Jim. He looked at Jim, and then announced to the young executives, "Behold your next Chief Executive Officer. His name is Jim!" Jim couldn't believe it. Jim couldn't even grow his seed.

"How could he be the new CEO?" the others said.

Then the CEO said, "One year ago today, I gave everyone in this room a seed. I told you to take the seed, plant it, water it, and bring it back to me today. But I gave you all boiled seeds; they were dead – it was not possible for them to grow. All of you, except Jim, have brought me trees and plants and flowers. When you found that the seed would not grow, you substituted another seed for the one I gave you. Jim was the only one with the courage and honesty to bring me a pot with my seed in it. Therefore, he is the one who will be the new Chief Executive Officer!"

If you plant honesty, you will reap trust
If you plant goodness, you will reap friends
If you plant humility, you will reap greatness
If you plant perseverance, you will reap contentment
If you plant consideration, you will reap perspective
If you plant hard work, you will reap success
If you plant forgiveness, you will reap reconciliation

So, be careful what you plant now, it will determine what you will reap later.

Thank God it's Friday! Really looking foward for the weekends. I think I need rest. Cepat penat bah nowadays, maklumlah usia meningkat :)
